The Rumpelstiltskin Literature Project and Guests
How do today's authors read the texts of their "predecessors"? And how do they respond to them in their writing?
Fifty-two authors from Germany, Italy, and Austria participated, contributing their responses to poems, short prose, and theatrical scenes by Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling (1740–1817), Elise von Hohenhausen (1789–1857), Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797–1848), Christian Dietrich Grabbe (1801–1836), Ferdinand Freiligrath (1810–1876), Friedrich Wilhelm Weber (1813–1894), Maria Lenzen (1814–1882), Mathilde Franziska Anneke (1817–1884), Georg Weerth (1822–1856), Theodor Althaus (1822–1852), Peter Hille (1854–1904), Heinrich Hart (1855–1906), and Julius Hart (1859–) 1930) and Jenny Aloni (1917 – 1993).
The resulting anthology also allows readers to discover writers who may only be known to "insiders".
Some of the authors featured in "Breaking Down Time Boundaries"—including Willi van Hengel, who has given several solo readings at our event—will present their texts during the reading. A discussion will follow.
The project is funded by the LWL Cultural Foundation as part of the cultural program for the anniversary year "1250 Years of Westphalia". The patron of this cultural program is the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
